Orchids Motifs, Lattice, and Local Emphasis

Tegucigalpa Honduras Temple

Completed: 2013

Dedicated in March 2013, the temple was the first built in Honduras. The design was influenced by Mesoamerican and Mayan architectural and pafferus, with its heavy stone mass features and shapes.

Motifs used in the exterior and interior design include a lattice pattern as expressed in the large window grill and are also found in carved details on the furniture and decorative lighting. Another motif was an orchid (Rhyncholaelia digbyana), which is the national flower of Honduras.
