Engineered Systems & Technical Design

Weber State University Noorda Engineering Building

Completed: 2022

The new Noorda Engineering Building is a reflection of the innovative and technically precise minds within its walls. Situated on the north end of Weber State University, the Noorda Engineering Building serves as the new home for the College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology.

VCBO’s team worked alongside Weber State University to design a functional and intuitive building; highlighting the elements and structures that often underlie engineered systems. The building’s dynamic sculpture, Between the Currents,  is inspired by “the invisible forces of nature, the hidden math behind them, and how unexpected beauty emerges when diverse sets of information converge.”

The building houses collaborative study spaces, academic classrooms, and labs for the departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, the School of Computing and sales. It also houses academic spaces for the early college High School: NUAMES. The new building provides an innovative space for students to learn, study, and thrive.

"Architecture relies on engineered systems that are typically hidden from users view, but in the Noorda Engineering Building, these building systems are intentionally exposed, allowing students and occupants an honest view of the essential systems that bring the building to life."

— Celestia Carson, Principal VCBO Architect
